Description
Weathered, grey, and hand-milled back in a not-quite-forgotten time, these lengths of Massachusetts barn board have witnessed their share of stories in their 100-plus years on the farm. Help them quietly tell those tales through your art or craft project or remodeling design.
Width of boards are either 11 inches (approx.) or 7 inches (approx.). Thickness is about 3/4″
Because these boards were hand crafted a century ago, you should expect variation in width (though the choices listed are pretty close), color and texture. The standard length is 48 inches, but contact me if you need a longer piece, and we can work out special arrangements if I have long ones left.
Sure, these boards are raw materials for your imagination today, but they’re a lot more, too. When Earl’s family put up this barn, the horseless carriage was still science fiction and you put on your coat and boots to go out and use the bathroom in the winter months.
The breath of horses and the lowing a cattle. A cock’s crow. The magic of baby animals. The independent spirit of an American farm family. All of this has seeped into the resilient grain of the pine that was harvested and milled right there on the property.
I know all this because the farm is mine. Earl and his family live only in memory now, but some folks in town are old enough to recount some of the details of these days gone by, and fill in some of the missing pieces that the land whispers too softly for me to hear. I can just make out one thing the land wants me to know, though—it wants a new barn on this farm. One that will be home to new generations of lambs, calves, and maybe even a foal one day. Each piece of barn board you buy puts my family a little bit closer to building that new barn.
I do thank you for dropping by and for choosing to incorporate a little bit of American history into your next project!
